Melbourne Salvation Army Responds to Fires in Brevard County
The Salvation Army is expected to feed 200 firefighters and rescue workers
Melbourne, Fla. (May 13, 2008) The Salvation Army is responding to a brush fire that has scorched nearly 4,000 acres in Brevard county. On Tuesday, May 13, Salvation Army staff and officers are expected to feed more than 200 firefighters and rescue workers out of the Bayside High School cafeteria, 1901 De Grodt Rd.
"We are feeding the firefighters and rescue workers because we want to let them know how much we appreciate what they are doing for the community," said Major Tim Williford, Salvation Army Melbourne corps officer. "They are in need and we want to help."
This is the first time The Salvation Army in Melbourne has been called to assist in the fires. On Sunday evening, The Salvation Army in Daytona Beach served nearly 200 meals to firefighters and rescue personnel fighting the Volusia county fires.
Last year May, Salvation Army crews fed and hydrated hundreds of firefighters and rescue personnel all over Florida during the wildfires that scorched thousands of acres all over the state.
