A mid-'70s game show staple is making a comeback. Comedy Central is reviving "The Gong Show," which originally aired on NBC and made a star out of host Chuck Barris.

The new version, hosted by comedian Dave Attell, will premiere July 17. Comedy Central has ordered eight half-hour episodes.

Like the original, "The Gong Show With Dave Attell" will feature off-the-wall acts judged by a three-person panel-who will bang a huge gong if they've seen enough (Jaye P. Morgan, Arte Johnson and Rip Taylor were regular judges in the original version).

The three new judges haven't yet been chosen. Comedy Central is launching a nationwide talent search for "Gong Show" contestants.

"Dave is the perfect guy to host this series," Comedy Central's Lauren Corrao, president of original programming and development, said of Attell.

"His dry, comedic wit paired with the outspoken personalities of our celebrity judges and the outrageous acts will create a fresh take on the famed series."
