Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham
Lindsey Buckingham was born in the San Francisco suburb of Palo Alto on October 3, 1949 and thanks to radio, very early gravitated toward music.
Later, like so many other American kids growing up during the Fifties, Lindsey was influenced with the arrival of Elvis Presley in 1956 and later taught himself how to play the guitar. To this day, Lindsey still can't read music.
While playing folk music on a five-string banjo during the early-Sixties, Lindsey developed his now familiar finger-style of guitar playing.
After a stint in his first rock band (Fritz) while a senior in high school, Lindsey went on to attend San Mateo Junior College where he hitched-up with another musician by the name of Stephanie "Stevie" Nicks. After Fritz folded, Lindsey and Stevie bonded and eventually formed the duo Buckingham-Nicks.
Following one unsuccessful (and now very rare out-of-print) Buckingham-Nicks album in 1973 on the Polydor record label, the couple began setting their sights on a follow-up... which never happened.
Instead, opportunity knocked and history was made.
In 1975, Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac stopped by Sound City Studios looking for a new place for his band Fleetwood Mac to record new songs. To showcase the studio, producer Keith Olsen played the Buckingham-Nicks track "Frozen Love" and introduced Fleetwood to Buckingham who was at the studio working on new material. A week later, Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Welch quit the Mac, and Buckingham was then asked to join the band to the fill the void. Lindsey did, but he made sure his partner Stevie Nicks would be part of the package too. What followed were classic albums such as Rumours and Mirage and timeless hit songs such as "Go Your Own Way" and "Tusk."
As a member of Fleetwood Mac and later as a solo act, Lindsey Buckingham contributed many remarkable songs to pop music over the years. You can view a list of several of the most familiar songs written by Lindsey followed by a few of his own comments. Hear the songs and commentaries now!
