"Shadows Of The Night" (#13/1982)
The first single taken from Get Nervous was one of several songs submitted by outside songwriters to Chrysalis Records. Pat initially liked the song, but altered some of the lyrics before taking it into the studio. Neil confessed, "The a cappella beginning to 'Shadows' was not the way we planned for the song to start. The original beginning was a four-bar guitar line that during the process of over-dubs really started to bother me. --- Then during the mixing of the record when we put the individual tracks of the song up and heard the first chorus by itself to balance the background vocals, I immediately --- said, 'Stop... wait... that's it!' --- We just found ourselves the intro!"
