"You'd Better Run" (#42/1980)![]() | Like their first charting single "Heartbreaker," their third appearance on the U.S. pop charts was another cover-tune. This time is was a 14-year old Rascals hit written by members Eddie Brigati and Felix Cavaliere in 1966. Said Pat, "As you know, I grew up on Long Island. One of my favorite bands growing up was the Young Rascals --- I always loved the song. --- When Neil played it for the first time, the song's whole personality changed. It was edgier and raucous... just the way I'd envisioned it." They introduced their live version of "You'd Better Run" during their first tour and after positive reactions from fans, Pat and Neil decided to include the tune on their second album, Crimes Of Passion. Pat added, "It was also the first music video we did and that was pretty exciting and unnerving. We were musicians, not actors, and when the director started telling us how to walk and hold the instruments etc., we told him to f-off. That's why I have such an attitude in the video." Incidentally, Benater's "You'd Better Run" video was the second clip played on MTV (right after "Video Killed The Radio Star") when the music channel signed on-the-air on August 1, 1981 |
