About the Show | The Hosts | On the Next etown

Etown is an exciting weekly radio broadcast heard from coast to coast on NPR, public and commercial stations. Listen to etown on WMMO Sundays at 7AM

Date: 1/10/10
*Note: Jesse Winchester, originally scheduled to appear as a guest on our Holiday show from New York City with Tori Amos, had to cancel at the last minute due to illness. Fortunately, we were able to secure Loudon Wainwright III to join us. However, since an encore broadcast of a show with Loudon was scheduled to air in the first week of January, we have made a NECESSARY CHANGE IN OUR FEED SCHEDULE AS FOLLOWS for SHOW #1001:
MATT NATHANSON / IAN BALL

This encore airing features two young songwriters and singers. Matt Nathanson, a talented musician and conversational ‘free-spirit’ with a marvelously gregarious stage presence, pays a visit to eTown. He plays some stripped down versions of recent hit songs, accompanied in exceptional style by Nick & Helen Forster and the ETones. We also welcome Ian Ball of the successful British rock trio, Gomez, who offers his own blend of Brit-pop tunes. Plus, we'll share a moving E-Chievement Award story with you, too, all this week in eTown.

Date: 1/17/10
ETOWN IN PORTLAND: SARAH MCLACHLAN, DARRELL SCOTT, GRIFFIN HOUSE
eTown and hosts Nick & Helen Forster travel to Portland, Oregon for the first time to record a show at the charming Newmark Theater in this repeat ‘back by-popular-demand’ airing. Sarah McLachlan is back with us, this time solo, selecting songs from her amazing catalog of new and classic material presented sparsely and in solid style with Nick & Helen and the ETones backing her up on a few as well. Phenomenal multi-instrumentalist and Grammy-nominated hit songwriter, Darrell Scott joins us, too, with a powerful set of songs supported by Nick & Helen and the ETones and old pals Darol Anger & Gary Ogan. Plus, talented newcomer, singer-songwriter Griffin House, is in eTown for his first visit as well. You’ll be moved by a special ‘in-person’ Portland-centric E-Chievement Award story, too, right here in eTown.

Date: 1/24/10
PUNCH BROTHERS / TIFT MERRITT
eTown welcomes back composer, singer and mandolinist extraordinaire, Chris Thile, as a member of the band, The Punch Brothers in this encore broadcast. This master musician combo also includes Gabe Witcher (fiddle), Noam Pikelny (banjo), Chris Eldridge (guitar) and Greg Garrison (bass). As the Boston Globe reports: this “top shelf acoustic quintet is a virtuosic revelation.” Singer-songwriterTift Merritt makes her first visit to eTown, with some help from Nick and the Etones. And the E-Chievement Award goes to a retired New Hampshire couple for improving the lives of orphans overseas. Be sure to tune in to eTown this week for one phenomenal show!

Date: 1/31/10
IMOGEN HEAP / GREGORY ALAN ISAKOV
This week, talented British singer-songwriter, instrumentalist and producer Imogen Heap makes her inaugural eTown visit. This two time Grammy nominee shares her most-innovative songs with arrangements mixing both electronic and traditional instrumentation. In her interview with host Nick Forster, she gives the audience a sonic tour of some of these unique instruments and sounds. Also joining us is Gregory Alan Isakov who makes his return to the eTown stage. This Boulder based singer-songwriter has built a large national following. He’s winning accolades from all around—like this one: “Hands down one of the best new songwriters on the scene." (Amy Ray, Indigo Girls). Nick & Helen and the ETones join in on a tune or two, as well. Also, Neil Mulholland, President of the National Park Foundation, stops by for a conversation with Nick. eTown brings you all this PLUS an incredible in-person E-Chievement Award interview and presentation honoring a young couple doing their part to alleviate hunger with dignity. Tune in!
