Asia Reunites With Some Original Members For 40th anniversary Celebration

I learn something new about music every day. Today I Learned (til for internet studs) that Asia wasn’t just a super group from the 80′s, they were an actual supergroup from the 80′s! In other words they were formed by members of other already well-known and successful bands. I’m sure many of you already know this, but here’s the lineup, and which bands each member originally played with.

According to Wikipedia: “Asia are an English rock supergroup formed in London in 1981. The most commercially successful line-up was its original, which consisted of four members of different progressive rock bands that had enjoyed great success in the 1970s: lead vocalist and bassist John Wetton of King Crimson and U.K., guitarist Steve Howe of Yes, keyboardist Geoff Downes of Yes and The Buggles, and drummer Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake & Palmer.” The current lineup includes Carl Palmer and Geoff Downes with Marc Bonilla, and Billy Sherwood who has played with Yes before. Paul Wetton passed in 2017 and Steve Howe is not in the band, currently.

And now they’ve decided to “reform” for a 40th anniversary tour, since they released their first music in 1982. Do the math. Carl Palmer is actually out on tour with Alan Parsons currently, and they’re playing Florida the 29th in Clearwater at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 30th in Ft. Lauderdale at the Broward Center, and Carl Palmer will perform the 31st in Key West, and February 2nd in Casselberry at Casselberry’s Patio & Lounge.

the 40th anniversary celebration will kick off in the late summer with a US tour, but no dates have been announced yet.

Something else I found interesting is if you look up Asia songs on YouTube the original videos don’t have many plays, but the “videos” that are just the song with an album graphic as the video are huge! The original Heat Of The Moment video only has 270,000 views:

But the image only “video”, or album version of the song (which is exactly the same) is over 10 million?
