Ann Wilson of Heart released her new single “Black Wing” on April 12th 2021.
An email sent out to Ann’s mailing said of the song “Black Wing” talks poetically about a river and a seabird cruising above it, riding the air currents. " Over an outlaw river….up on the southeastern wind….” The bird is a free spirit apart from what goes on below: " On the breath of your liberation...and the perfume of wild ginger bloom. " The bird is soaring over the landscape below and bringing news of the crazy world to the watcher who is cut off from civilization.
I sometimes felt that way during Quarantine!
Fantastic experience recording this one. It reminds me of something I would have written in 1977( Dream of the Archer ) or in 2010 ( Safronia’s Mark ). It’s got a gypsy, folk/rock feel to it superimposed over a tribal groove.
The band was tight with everything I imagined. There is also a long version of “Black Wing” that lets their beautiful, soaring, tribal groove sail on for another few minutes. Someday we will drop that one too for those with relaxed imaginations!
In other happenings, I will be releasing a physical EP of all of my recent singles. Of course the EP ( Called " 8 " ) will also be released digitally.
This June I will be going on a mini-tour in Florida which may lead to a much larger tour, so stay tuned for that! I hope to see you there with mask and groove on.
Love and respect,
Ann”
