For race fans, the F1 Grand Prix is the ultimate experience. With worldwide international locales that range from Monaco’s streets along their yacht studded marina, to landlocked tracks like Austria or Austin, Texas. Starting next year America will be the only country with 3 F1 races, too. There will be the COTA, Circuit Of The Americas in Austin, the newly announced Las Vegas strip race, and the one that took place this last weekend, the Miami F1 Grand Prix.
With this being an international sport with international fans, the organizers of each individual race in each city do everything they can to make their city look inviting and awesome for the affluent and willing to travel F1 fans. And the city of Miami went to some interesting lengths to make it look tropical and Caribbean. And one way they did it was by putting a fake marina in the middle of the race track.
The track was based around the Hard Rock Stadium and parking lots where the Dolphins play, and which is nowhere near the beautiful blue water Miami is known for. But, unless you’re from Miami or have been to the stadium, you may not know the track is nowhere near the water. And that’s what the city was hoping for with the international audience, because why else would you paint fake water, and put fake boats in the middle of a black asphalt parking lot? Check it out.
The fake marina in the middle of the Miami F1 circuit is the most laughable thing I’ve seen this year so far 🤣 #MiamiGP #F1 @F1 pic.twitter.com/RGrWYNueZD

Miami's hosting its first F1 race this weekend, and they decided to make a fake marina with yachts on the inside part of the circuit surrounded by foil designed to look like water from afar.

So for anyone watching the drone or helicopter shots of the race, that have never been to Miami, this may have looked legit. Unless, of course, they actually watched the race where practically every news story at one point or another mentioned that the inner marina was fake, which kinda ruined the effect, but nice try anyway, Miami.
And in case you wanted to know how far from actual water the stadium/race track really are, its about 5 miles.
