In 1970 the Doobie Brothers first made music together. Now, 50 years later, they are ready to take their place in the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame.

Due to the pandemic, the typically extravagant ceremony isn’t happening and the Doobie’s, along with Whitney Houston, Depeche Mode, Notorious B.I.G., Nine Inch Nails and T-Rex, will be inducted virtually.

Doobie’s lead singer Tom Johnston recently told USA Today that the band would’ve preferred the ceremony be postponed until after the pandemic. Or, at least until the band could reunite and play together to commemorate their achievement. Instead, they’ll have to settle for watching and participating from their respective living rooms.

The band has been eligible for the RRHOF since 1996 but only received their first nomination in 2019. Johnston says the band would’ve liked to "have gotten in earlier, but I’m not holding it against them.” He adds, “We’re just happy to be here. At this point, it’s a celebration.”

You can watch the ceremony stream live on HBO and HBO Max this Saturday beginning at 8pm.
