The “Edward Scissorhands” House If Officially A Museum Now

Edward Scissorhands Movie Clip (Screengrab from Movieclips Via YouTube)

It was 1990 in Lutz, Florida, just north of Tampa, when Tim Burton, Winona Ryder, Johnny Depp, and an entire film crew lived in Florida for a few months filming the goth cult classic Edward Scissorhands. The neighborhood and all of the houses in the film were real homes that are still standing today in the Carpenter’s Run subdivision. The only set piece built for the movie was the castle that sat in the now empty cul de sac. The actual full castle set was built in Dade City, but the facade was shown to be part of the real neighborhood. You can watch an original news piece about the castle from 1990 here.

But the house Edward lived in, and all of the neighbors’ houses, are still there in Lutz although they clearly look different from the film. The house was bought in 2020 by the current owners, the Licalzis who have turned parts of it into a free museum, in which they also live. You can make an appointment to visit, but Joey Licalzi says many people just knock on the door for a tour. You can find the house on Google maps and stop by anytime you’re anywhere near where I-75 and I-275 split north of Tampa.

Here’s what the house looked like when the Licalzis bought it, but they’ve done a ton of work on the exterior to make it look more like the movie home, and you can see pics of the updates at this Creative Loafing article.

If you want sort of guided video tour of the neighborhood, and you can survive through this guy’s...I’ll say interesting way of narrating, watch this clip.
