It Was So Cold At The Olympics That A Finnish Skier’s Junk Froze During A Race

The 2022 Winter Olympics had a lot of issues to deal with. Two of those issues seem to contradict each other in that China had to produce tons of fake snow for most of the competitions, and yet it was so cold some events were delayed, and race distances shortened because of fear of physically harming the athletes.

And yet, sadly, those precautions weren’t enough in some cases. Remi Lindholm is one of those cases. He’s a cross-country skier competing in some of the long-distance events. And in one, it was so cold that not only did they delay the start, but they also shortened the normally 50km (approx. 31 miles) down to 30km (approx. 18 miles), which is almost half as long. Apparently that wasn’t enough, and I’m sure wearing the skin tight aerodynamic body suits don’t provide a ton of warmth or protection from the cold, either. And all these factors combined into the situation with Remi literally freezing his penis. He was on the course for over an hour, and that was long enough to actually freeze himself. I don’t think he ended up with actual frostbite, or needed any serious medical attention, but he claims that when he used a heat pack to thaw himself back out, “the pain was unbearable.” And to add insult to actual injury? He only finished 28th.

Even worse, this isn’t the first time he’s had this issue. It happened before in a race in 2011. I’m thinking after it happening twice, I might switch to shorter distance competitions, or maybe even indoor sports.

And of course Gene Simmons tweeted about it.
