I remember going to the fair as a kid and I always wanted to see the side show acts but they cost extra, and of course my parents were smart enough to know those were all scams. The 2-headed cows and snake-ladies were all fakes that weren’t even being done well anymore, just another cash grab for gullible people.
But in the past 30 years or so a true side-show culture has blossomed. And the #1 genuine side show that I know of is the Hellzapoppin’ Circus Sideshow. These are real performers and real people doing real side-show stuff. They are a rock-n-roll circus sideshow with performers doing contortion acts, juggling, glass walking/eating, fire-breathing, magic and illusions, sword swallowing, and much more.
Named after the most successful Broadway Show and movie of the1930′s and 40′s the Hellzapoppin’ Circus Sideshow is a fun time for the alternatively curious in all of us. They just announced a Florida tour that starts April 1st at The Abbey in Orlando with dates in Melbourne, Ft. Myers, West Palm, Tampa, Gainesville, Tallahassee, Destin, Pensacola, and Jacksonville.
