The Who Hits Back is kicking off later this month in Hollywood, Florida. And even though Keith Moon hasn’t been alive for a long time, he is still the supreme driving beat behind one of the greatest rock bands of all time. In this interview from Good Morning America, Keith and Pete talk with former GMA host David Hartman. Interestingly enough, at the very outset of the interview Hartman they discuss a film about the band in which Pete mentions they felt just like subjects, or pieces of meat, as Hartman interjects. Hartman then asks Keith when he felt like they got control back in their lives, and Keith replies “I don’t think I have.” Hartman then asks Keith if he feels like he’s in control of his life at all, to which Keith replies “certain days...”, and on others, “quite, quite out of control...amazingly drunk.” This interview was on August 7th, 1978. Exactly one month later, on September 7th, 1978, Keith Moon would be found unresponsive in his bed, having died overnight. The previous night he and his girlfriend had attended a party screening of The Buddy Holly Story, starring Gary Busey, hosted by Paul McCartney, and afterwards continued partying for most of the night.
