Def Leppard’s Rick Allen was recently voted the world’s best drummer by a gear sales website called Music Radar. Now don’t get me wrong here, I’m not hating on Rick one bit. He’s an amazing drummer for sure. He’s probably the most innovative drummer to be sure since he’s the first one to create a kit he can play with one arm, and lots of foot pedals. It amazing that he overcame the accident and still drums to this day without missing a beat.
But the world’s best drummer he’s not. There are probably a few dozen drummers I would put before Rick like John Bonham, Danny Carey from Tool, Neil Peart, Alex Van Halen, and many others.
Then I looked at the top ten from this website’s poll and realized that very few true music fans voted in it. You can tell by who made the top 10:

OK, let’s break that list down, shall we? Looking at number 2, I’m a Volbeat fan, but I’ve never heard of Jon being thought of as one of the top drummers ever. At #3, I don’t even know how someone from the pop group 5SOS (as the kids call them) made the list? Alter Bridge’s Scott is a good drummer, but still not a top 10, ever. Former Who drummer Simon Phillips, but Keith Moon didn’t crack the list? please. And while I agree that Roger Taylor, Tommy Lee, Travis Barker, Dave Grohl, and Phil Rudd are all top drummers, I would have all of them higher than the rest of the list!
To give the website credit, they also did top 10′s for multiple music genres like metal and prog, but to have this as the WORLD’S top 10 is weak sauce if you ask me.
