Tony Piloseno, aka @tonesterpaints on Tik Tok, was a paint retailer for a Sherwin-Williams store in Ohio. He started a Tik Tok page making videos of him mixing paint colors at his store. Those videos racked up millions of views and likes for his page, and by default, millions of likes for his company if they’d recognized how huge this was. But they didn’t, and they got mad at Tony for making videos with company equipment and supplies. Now true he was using their paint and equipment, but he paid for the paint he used, and mixing colors is free when you buy the paint anyway. Sherwin-Williams could have, and SHOULD have, hired this guy for their social media team and made them a huge following online for free, because he’d already done the hard work of building a huge following. Now they’ll be known as the company that blew an enormous opportunity, and probably taught about in business and social media classes at college too.
That’s where Florida Paints in Orlando has stepped in to win! Tony received a ton of job offers after he was fired and his story went even more viral. But he says the co-owner of Florida Paints, Don Strube, really connected with him, and he accepted a job here in Orlando.
So way to go Don and Florida Paints for doing the right, and smart thing for Tony. Check out Tony’s Tik Tok story of the whole thing.
