A company called Iconic Auctions is holding The Amazing Music Auction starting today that features some cool memorabilia like autographed guitars by AC/DC, Aerosmith, Nirvana, and a lot more stuff. But one item is also up for grabs, 6 strands of Kurt Cobain’s hair from 1989. Yes the hair comes with full provenance and has been verified to be Kurt’s, but that really just makes it even weirder to me. Look I’m not the guy to tell you what you should or shouldn’t do with your life, or what kind of weird stuff to collect or be into. You do you, boo. But to buy someone’s hair is just kinda wrong to me. Its like if someone came along and said they had kept Van Gogh’s ear this whole time and now wanted to auction it off. Sure hair grows back, if someone is still alive. And while that just makes this more valuable to some, to me its like buying a jar of someone’s toe nails. Who wants to see that?
Well if you want to see that, you can bid alongside everyone else at this link. But I’ll stick with autographed guitars and band pictures thank you. You can keep the hair.
