HOUSTON — The owner of a Houston food truck fatally shot a man she said was attempting to rob her on Tuesday, authorities said.
According to a tweet from the Houston Police Department, the incident occurred in a southwest area of the city at about 1 p.m. CDT.
Police spokesperson Lt. Bryan Bui told reporters that a brother and his sister own the truck, called Elite Eats and Cold Treats, which has been at the location for about a year, KHOU-TV reported.
Bui said the man asked what kind of food was served at the truck and then attempted to rob them, but the siblings were able to close the window of the truck, according to the television station.
Police said the suspect opened one of the windows and pointed a gun inside the vehicle, KTRK-TV reported. At that point, the woman pulled out her own weapon and fired “multiple times,” police said. The suspect attempted to return fire but his gun jammed, according to the television station.
Bui said the woman shot the suspect several times, KHOU reported. The man collapsed about 50 feet away from the truck, police said.
The woman was taken to an area hospital but was not seriously injured, according to KTRK.
An investigation is ongoing.
